Qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 antigens
The COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test is a lateral flow immunoassay method for the qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid antigens from individuals suspected of having COVID-19 infection.
For this purpose, a saliva sample is collected and applied to a test cassette. The test works on the lateral flow principle and indicates within 15 minutes whether COVID-19 antigens could be detected in the sample. After 30 minutes, the displayed result is invalid.
Certified and reimbursable test listed at the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices according to the Coronavirus Test Regulation (TestV): List of Antigen Tests - Test ID: AT108/21, File number of the special approval of the BfArM, for self-administration by lay persons (self-tests): 5640-S-032/21.

Test principle
The Antigen Rapid Test, unlike an antibody test, can directly detect the causative agent of COVID-19, the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. It detects the proteins of the virus (the antigens). These are found in saliva when the virus replicates there. Similar to the PCR test, the antigen rapid test is therefore sensitive, especially in the initial phase of the infection. Similar to the PCR test, it can also indicate a viral infection before symptoms appear.
